Read Time:2 Minute

From November 25th to 28th, SIGNIS Board of Directors members and secretariat staff met in Bangkok, Thailand. This was the first in-person meeting that took place since they were nominated, and it was an opportunity to discover the vibrant life at the grassroots level in each region, delving into the rich intercultural challenges that shape our global community.

The BOD also adopted a safeguarding protocol and discussed how to build trust and consolidate the network beyond the boundaries of the single countries, the rejuvenation of the Desks, and the launch of new committees in the perspectives of a working board to counter the sustainability challenge.

The gathering counted with the presence of Dr. Paolo Ruffini, prefect of the Vatican’s Dicastery for Communication, and included cultural activities and a mass with the Apostolic Nuncio of Thailand.

Rwanda to host SIGNIS World Congress in 2026

The official city to host the SIGNIS World Congress in 2026 is Kigali, Rwanda. After Asia (Seoul, South Korea, 2022), America (Canada, Quebec, 2017), Europe (Italy, Rome, 2014) we can now say: “It’s time for Africa”.

This location will allow SIGNIS and its partners to discover one of the richest continents in terms not only of culture but also Catholicism, and put the spotlight on both the communication achievements and needs of the African peoples and how we can use those experiences to improve communications around the world.

“There is hope for a different way of communicating. We just need the courage to dream it” Dr. Paolo Ruffini at the SIGNIS BOD meeting

During the BOD meeting in Bangkok, Dr. Paolo Ruffini, prefect of the Vatican’s Dicastery for Communication, gave an opening speech sharing a reflection on the importance of communication not only for the Church but to weave communion among the peoples.

“Communication is not merely the giving of information, since weaving communion among journalists, film directors, graphic designers, writers, novelists, actors, performers, cultures is itself the most power mean of communication. Here is exactly the challenging and unique task for the men and women of SIGNIS: to be a network that unites, and liberates”.
