Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has been dominating headlines for the past 24 hours after a video surfaced of him abusing Cassie. The bombshell clip shows the hip-hop mogul shoving, kicking and dragging the singer in a hotel hallway in March 2016. Now, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office is revealing its next steps.
“We are aware of the video that has been circulating online allegedly depicting Sean Combs assaulting a young woman in Los Angeles. We find the images extremely disturbing and difficult to watch,” the May 17 statement read.
At this time, the answer to that question appears to be no. According to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office, they have no current plans to charge Diddy for assaulting Cassie.
The violent incident occurred in the “now-closed” InterContinental Hotel in Los Angeles. But, even though the abuse happened in LA County, the statement revealed that it happened too long ago to legally prosecute.
“If the conduct depicted occurred in 2016, unfortunately, we would be unable to charge as the conduct would have occurred beyond the timeline where a crime of assault can be prosecuted. As of today, law enforcement has not presented a case related to the attack depicted in the video against Mr. Combs, but we encourage anyone who has been a victim or witness to a crime to report it to law enforcement or reach out to our office for support from our Bureau of Victims Services.”
Diddy and his representation have yet to react to the surfaced footage, which CNN exposed on Friday. Cassie also has not spoken about visuals of her trauma being public. However, her attorney, Douglas H. Wigdor, said the footage “confirmed the disturbing and predatory behavior of Mr. Combs.”
Wigdor also commended his client for her “courage and fortitude” in first bringing her abuse from Diddy to light in Nov. 2023. The attorney also represented Cassie when she sued her ex-boyfriend for abuse, assault, and trafficking. Less than 48 hours later, Diddy settled with Ventura for an undisclosed amount.
However, Cassie’s lawsuit seemingly inspired multiple folks to come forward with similar allegations against the self-proclaimed “Brother Love.”
On Friday, Cassie’s husband, Alex Fine, shared a letter he previously wrote about men who commit domestic violence.
While celebrities like Judge Greg Mathis and Erica Campbell continue to show the singer love online, Slim Thug has apologized for previously doubting her abuse allegations.
