Dolores Mendez was a Broadway showgirl and a Mack Sennett bathing beauty
She was born Dolores Mendez Malso in 1899 in Venezuela. When she was a child her family moved to New York City. At the age of seventeen she made her Broadway debut in The Passing Show Of 1916. Dolores appeared in numerous Broadway shows including The Passing Show of 1917, Cinderella On Broadway, and The Rose Of Stamboul. During World War 1 she volunteered with the Red Cross and started dating a soldier named Logan Metcalf. After the war the couple moved in together in Los Angeles. She wanted to marry him but he refused because his mother wouldn’t approve.

Mack Sennett chose her to be one of his famous bathing beauties in the spring of 1925. Unfortunately the only film roles she got were as an uncredited extra. Logan left her in 1925 and announced he was marrying another woman. Heartbroken she sued him for maintenance claiming she had been his “common law wife” for five years. They settled out of court and he later married Madge Bellamy. Dolores enjoyed a brief romance with director Ralph Ince. In 1928 burglars stole $3000 worth of jewelry and furs from her Los Angeles home. She became an American citizen in 1930.

I haven’t been able to find any information about Dolores after 1930. If you know what happened to her please write to me at [email protected]
