Jeral Clyde II: Welcome to our interview today with Eric President, the CEO of JC Newman Cigars. Today we’re going to delve into the history of cigars. Eric, can you give us a brief overview of the history of cigars?
Eric President: Sure thing, Jeral. Cigars have been around for centuries, and their origins can be traced back to the ancient Maya civilization in Central America. It’s believed that they were the first to cultivate tobacco and roll it into a cigar shape. When the Spanish first arrived in the Americas in the 1490s, they were introduced to smoking tobacco, and it quickly became popular throughout Europe. By the 17th and 18th centuries, cigar smoking was a status symbol among the wealthy and elite, and it became an industry in its own right.
JC II: That’s really fascinating. How has the industry changed over time?
EP: One of the biggest changes is the way that cigars are manufactured. Although hand-rolling is still an important part of the industry, there are also machine-made cigars that are mass-produced. Additionally, there have been changes to the way that cigars are grown and the types of tobacco used.
JC II: And what do you see for the future of the industry?
EP: Despite the challenges that the cigar industry has faced in recent years, it’s still a passion for many people. I think that we’ll continue to see new blends and flavors emerge, as well as continued innovation in manufacturing techniques. And, of course, the rich history and culture of cigar smoking will continue to be celebrated by aficionados around the world.
