Released on January 21, 2000, The Boondock Saints became a commercial flop after being shown in just five theaters thanks to distribution issues, and earning $35,000. The film would find new life on home video, earning more than $50 million in sales over the years, leading to The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day in 2009. Like its predecessor, it was also considered a box office failure thanks to its limited release, but gained traction on home video, and over the years the two films have earned a cult following, with many die-hard fans clamoring for a sequel.
