“What did you do?!” “I did what’s best for my family.” Blumhouse has revealed the first official trailer for a high tech horror movie called Afraid, formerly known as They Listen. It’s set to open in theaters in late August at the end of this summer. In Afraid, the Curtis’ family is selected to test a new home device: a digital assistant called AIA. AIA learns the family’s behaviors and begins to anticipate their needs. And she will also make sure that nothing – and no one – gets in her family’s way. This sounds a lot like Blumhouse’s M3gan but instead of a doll, a digital assistance device in the shape of an oval. In addition to John Cho, the cast includes Katherine Waterston, Havana Rose Liu, Lukita Maxwell, with David Dastmalchian and Keith Carradine. This looks like it has all the expected cheesy A.I.-horror tropes worked into it, with advanced tech turning evil and messing with this family any way it can think of. A.I. is bad!
